Keeping your window tracks clean and clear of debris
Most windows these days have what are called weep holes. These holes are found along the bottom edge of the window. The weep holes allow water do drain out of the track. If the weep hole becomes clogged with either debris or dirt, water is not allowed to drain and this could cause unwanted mold or mildew to form in the tracks.
How do you keep the weep holes clean?
1. Find a standard spray bottle and using a sharpie pen place 3 X's on the bottle.
2. Add 1/2 cup of bleach to the spray bottle.
3. Add 1 cup of water to the spray bottle.
4. Find a small 1 or 2 inch stiff bristle paint bush.
Now you're ready to start to clean. Spray an ample amount of the water/bleach solution into the tracks. Then take your paint brush, applying pressing into the tracks and moving it across the tracks loosening and debris. On stubborn debris you may want to apply additional water/bleach solution. Pay particular attention to the weep hole opens on the inside of the tracks making sure that you can see water passing through them. If you find that the weep holes are still clogged, take a tooth pick or small standard screw driver and gently scrape the debris from the weep hole.
Remember that you are using bleach so you may want to wear some rubber gloves.
We recommend doing this procedure once a year, generally around September, just before the rains start. |
